“Learn to Sail a Dinghy “
Start Sailing – Dinghy 1 & 2 is intended to provide an introduction to sailing for people who have not previously sailed or need a refresher course. It is open to teenagers 13 years and older and adults providing the training they need to become competent sailors with the aim of progressing to competitive club sailing.
Equipment overview and selection, sailing terminology, rigging the boat, boat launch and recovery, capsize recovery, sail triangular course, basic sailing rules and theory
Start Sailing – Dinghy 2:
Your Discover Sailing journey continues as you master all of the fundamental dinghy sailing skills. You are now equipped to sail your dinghy on your own voyages of discovery
The courses will be held at Elwood Sailing Club, Foreshore, Elwood, off Ormond Esplanade. (Melways ref 67B4). A Council-controlled car park is adjacent and meter fees are payable (please bring plenty of coins).
What to Wear
Weather conditions may vary from cold to hot, so students should therefore bring:
Bathers, Towel & Wetsuit (if available) or Thermal underclothes
Shorts (also good over wetsuit for protection)
Polyester or lycra shirts and tops recommended (not cotton)
Old sneakers / wetsuit boots
Sun hat / sunglasses / sunscreen
Total cost is $395 for a 5 week course with a free make up day if any time is missed.
